Should have read the whole blog archive before querying...

Last night I received an email from an agent who asked enthusiastically for my full, having read the partial. I sent the full, and spent today digging through her blog archive--and I just found an old post in which she states that she's the wrong agent to handle stories which feature two specific story elements that my novel happens to feature.

In other ways she'd be a great fit for this manuscript, and maybe she'll love it enough to overlook those two particular elements, but my hopes of getting a positive reply are now just about dashed.

How old is the post in question? People change as do their tastes!

It's from November of 2013, so maybe her tastes have changed a little since then. Then again, one of the things she mentions is a very foundational kind of preference that seems unlikely to change. (Specifically, she states that she wants optimistic stories with happy endings--and my ending is definitely more tragic.)

I could be wrong, but I don't think that's foundational. We go through phases! She might want something a bit darker now.

oh god yeah. I wouldn't worry about something she said regarding her tastes from 2 years ago.

And she asked for the full so she clearly sees something in the MS that she wants more of.

Thanks, Sarah! Probably a bit of an overreaction on my part. I was happy to get the request! I just hope I'm not wasting her time.
