When You Think You'll Never Land an Agent...
« on: September 08, 2015, 10:34:54 AM »
Hey folks! I have a few different interviews floating around about how I landed my agent, but I thought I'd share the QT one I recently submitted to Patrick!

For anyone who feels like their time is ticking--like you'll never find an agent--I hope this brings you comfort. I was in a dark place before I signed with mine this summer because I'd been hunting for ten years. Everyone says to never give up, but it begins to feel like a line we all tell each other. But it really is true! Keep reading, writing, researching, and querying. There is an art to perfecting the patience required of you throughout this journey.  :)

What a fabulous interview - congratulations!  Your book sounds awesome!  I definitely want to read that.  :)

I'm at that point in my process where I just feel so down and not even sure I should query anymore.  Your pep talk definitely makes me rethink it.  So thank you.  :)

Thank you for providing this link! This really helps all us writers still pre-agent.

So glad you guys found it helpful! Kimberly, definitely keep writing and querying! I was actually offered rep on this book and the one I wrote and queried right before it (totally out of the blue and after I'd given up on that title). You never know!

Sarah, I'll msg you :)

YAY! I'm soooo happy to read your success story! I knew you'd land an agent with H4H. I loved that book so much! I can't wait to see it go on submission.

Congrats! You worked so hard for this!

I thought I commented on this already but apparently I didn't!

Wonderful interview and nice story! I remember reading H4H's query. :)

You also have wonderful advice to us writers still trying to be pubbed.

I'm looking forward to reading your book.

Thank you so much for sharing, Aly -- that certainly is an inspiring interview. :)  And the book sounds adorable!  Was it an entry in one of the contests at MSFV?  (For some reason I'm thinking I saw something about it someplace else, but maybe it's just because I remember it from the query critiques here.)

I do that, too--reply to something in my head and then don't actually respond when I think I did.  ;D Glad you liked the interview, X, and thanks for the support!

Aw, thank you so much! It was a contest my CP introduced me to on Brenda Drake's site called The Writer's Voice. Also, while we were editing with our coaches, I participated in a free query critique Moe Ferrara was hosting on Reddit. She requested the manuscript through the Reddit critique, which was a pleasant surprise! But she was also a secret agent on The Writer's Voice contest. So that's how we connected  :)
