The founder of Inkitt actually commented to clarify a few points. He confirmed that one author did get a Tor deal through an Inkitt contest. He did not, however, refute any of the other important points (the army of spambots, the 15% cut, wasting first publication rights). Most surprisingly, he said nothing about the fact that they claim they'll publish winners in-house if they don't get a book deal, but there's no sign that they've ever actually done it.
