I'd be interested to learn about the experiences of people who attend online conferences.

When I attend (in-person) conferences, my best experiences come from the unscheduled bump-intos in the hallway or chow line. In this way, I meet people who I would never have thought to seek out. This has been my most effective means of networking with industry pros.

But I'm willing to be persuaded. Who has attended an online conference, and how did you benefit from it?

Great!

Do you have new ongoing relationships because of it?

With those editors? No. With other writers, yes.

I think it's great from the writers' perspectives. I've taught at a few online conferences and it's been helpful in the way conferences usually are: connections, education, and the sense that you're not alone in the world. The conferences generally have free-form chatrooms or times in the schedule for writers to hang out and talk with each other, which is kind of the same thing as meeting someone in the lunch line or at the book tables.
