So I have some news. After more passes, my agent has set a closing date for my sub: three weeks! I was expecting this to drag on until late July or August potentially. I'm honestly relieved to have the freedom to move on so soon, even if my poor book dies on sub.

so..yay I guess?

sad that it has to end that way, but good that it's not dragging out.  forever forward.

I have mixed  feelings for sure, but overall relief. I'm displeased with how the sub has been handled, in the last few months especially, so having an end date firmly set is a huge pressure/stress off my shoulders.

Yeah, sad, but good that it's not dragging out.

It's bittersweet, but I'm looking forward to next month and finishing my WIP. Gotta stay positive and such.

I completely get the idea of being ready to move on. Besides, you still have 3 weeks-- who knows what will happen?  Grin

Haha, you're far more optimistic than I am. My agent made a mess out of my sub these last few weeks no I'm not expecting any miracles.

In my experience, all the things the agent did that pissed you off while you were still an active client will be multiplied fourfold during the closeout period. Try to at least have a good laugh at the agent's expense (in private!!!) when the agent does more-of-the-same things that caused the split in the first place.

(The private laughter helps in maintaining public professionalism.)

Oh I've had a few private laughs already. It's just such a mess! Better than wallowing over things I can't change.

So I'm officially unrepresented again. My book closes out end of this week but due to extenuating circumstances I left my agent earlier than planned. I'm nervous about taking the proverbial step backwards, but also happy to be free of a less than ideal situation.

Hey, you at least landed an agent, that's something a lot of people (myself included) struggle with.  If you've done it once, you can do it again.

good luck.

Sorry that your book didn't sell, but it's a good thing to being able to move on to a new agent without strings attached to the old agent. And, it's not a step backwards if your agent wasn't the right fit. And you're not alone in the way of an author leaving an agent and querying again.  Smiley

Haha. I feel like there should be a club for authors who broke up with their agents and are querying again. I could be captain of that.  wink2
