Helpful Rejection
« on: August 12, 2019, 11:53:34 AM »
Instead of the usual form rejection I've become accustomed to, today I received such a nice personalized rejection. I knew by her comments that the agent had read the submitted pages. She was complimentary as well as remarking on a few things she wasn't in love with. All in all, it left me smiling.

Got to love when a personalized rejection slips through the masses of forms.

After piles of rejections in the year and a half of my querying, just four months ago I had received a very personalized and kind rejection on a partial request (the agent had ultimately passed because she felt my voice was too commercial for her tastes) but I was so thankful for it being that I knew, finally, exactly why an agent rejected.

These are the sort of rejections that leave us feeling more hopeful.  :)

Exactly, jessikalindst. And for all the talk about the writer hiring the agent, it's still us writers putting our work on the chopping block time and again, hoping the axe doesn't fall.

Indeed, very, very true.

I feel many forget (and I have to remind myself of this too) that we, the writers, are the ones hiring the agents, not the other way around when it comes to this process.
It's easy to though because we have to be so professional when approaching/contacting agents that it's so quick to loose sight of what we're all trying to do; find a hopefully career long business partner which I hope that we all do one day.  ;D
