What to put in the subject line of query mail
« on: April 19, 2021, 05:37:28 AM »
Hey gang,

What do you put in the subject line of your query mails?

I tend to put something like: Query: MG+ Fantasy 70k TITLE OF THE BOOK

. . . unless the agency says otherwise.

But then I find things like this:

Please choose the agent who is the best fit for your work, then send a query letter by email, with the word QUERY in the email’s subject line.

Does the above mean I should ONLY put QUERY in the subject line? Or that I should be sure to include QUERY.

Just that you should be sure to include QUERY in the subject line.

I always did something like

QUERY: Full Title of Book (genre)

and that seemed to work.

I always did exactly what the website said, so it it said to only put QUERY, I only put QUERY.

If they didn't specify, I put: Query: Last Name, TITLE (genre)
