They can't blackball you or take away your birthday.

LOL!  This is so true  :).  I think sometimes we're too intimidated by agents.  This is, after all, just a professional relationship.  It's not like you emailed the Pope or anything

Good luck!  That's so exciting that she wants to see more of your stuff  ;D!!!  You'll have to keep us posted.

I agree with everyone who said don't apologize.

I read this line and burst into a chorus of, "It's too laaaate to apologize… It's too laaaaate!"

Warning:  :hijack: :hijack: :hijack: :hijack: :hijack:

I have to echo that agents are real people. For the QT blog, we've lined up some agents to appear on the blog (soooo exciting, I hope you're all reading), and me and Suzy_Q were in the same room when we sent the first email. My heart has never pounded so hard. Not even when sending a query. That they can just hit the auto-respond "you suckage" to and move on with their day.

We actually held hands. Read the email like fifty thousand times out loud. Clicked send...it was terrifying. I mean, we were asking them to do something for us! And you know what? They're real people. All of them that have responded have been nothing but absolutely delightful to correspond with. I think Leah (GypsyGurl) said something like this in her interview on The Call. They are just people. Just like you.

And... :hijack: over and out.
My trilogy is complete! POSSESSION, SURRENDER, ABANDON, and short stories REGRET and RESIST, are available now wherever books are sold.

My next novel, a YA contemporary novel, ELEVATED, is coming on February 18, 2014.

EJ: Over and out is an incorrect military command.

Used in radio transmissions where you can't see the other party:

- Over: I have finished talking and it is your turn to reply to me.

- Out: I am completely finished with this radio transmission and don't expect to hear back from you.

So you see, you can't have both.

This is a GOOD outcome. No more missives until she asks to see the full.

Now, here's how I'm going to make you feel better. A couple of years ago I fired off a query to Rock Star Agent Dan Lazar, also of Writers House, because he sounded like a nice guy in an interview. My ms was unfinished and my query sucked and he sort of doesn't really rep my genre.

Now that's reason to bang head on desk. Yours is reason to go have a glass of cheap chardonnay. If you need one.

I love this, because I never think of things like this. My beta reader is a literal thinker like you, and I crave that kind of feedback on my writing.  :toast:
