Do publishers pay for authors to attend book launch events?
« on: September 07, 2022, 06:31:00 PM »
I have been asked to do something of a workshop at a launch event (for the book I edited/wrote essays for) and it's far away. It's really expensive to get to the place and accommodation is expensive, so I'm not sure I can swing it. Would the honus be on me to self-fund this or should the publisher be paying for this? It's not a ticketed event but the book will be sold there. My advance was tiny. £1500 and a year of work.

Do writers/editors get paid for promo events like this? This is in the UK.

I'm not in the UK, but publishers don't normally pay for this kind of thing.

In general, if an event invites you to give a talk at the event, they should at least pay for your entry to the event and provide some kind of payment in addition, but they probably won't cover your travel and accommodation.
