So bummed
« on: August 28, 2010, 06:31:04 PM »
Weronika nicely rejected DEATH AT THE DRIVE-IN, saying "Your book lies on the too-short end of women's fiction and, second, I wasn't hooked by your beginning pages."    :'(      When I wrote back thanking her (for rejecting me!) I asked if I could send her something else I'd written and she wrote back right away saying, "Feel free to query me about a different project anytime, and I'd be more than happy to look at a revision of this, too.Cheers, Weronika."

Naturally, I sent the 1st chapter of my Brit Lit MS and she wrote back, "I'm going to pass on this, too, but only because it's not something I love -- you are a good writer and I really do hope you find someone who thinks differently about this. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to read. Best of luck! Weronika"

Though, perhaps worded nicely, a no is still a NO.   :sad2:   Feeling very unSallyField right now.

I'm sorry. I had an agent do that to me too, and it stinks.  :(

Thanks Violet & Tabris - your sympathy is much appreciated.  Yes, I've heard tell of the Revenge Queries.  *insert evil laugh*  Think they can get rid of me, do they?   Ha!

Sympathy hugs for you. Query Road is so tough.

Kudos for you also, though, for seizing the opportunity and the open line of communication to mention another project.

Good for you.

As we know, it's only one agent, one opinion, subjective by design. I agree on the revenge queries. They feel great, too!

Everything crossed that you find that wonderful agent who both gets and appreciates your work and talent,

If it's any consolation, same agent took all of 40 minutes to reject me (with a form) and didn't look closely enough at my query to even get my name right. I've gotten one personal rejection in my life and you got two from one agent. You're on the right track, you're getting people's attention...

Thanks HorsebackWriter and august - I do appreciate your comments.  I've been at this a l-o-n-g time and ol' clock's a tickin.  I just don't want it to be a John Kennedy Toole deal for me, ya know?  I'd like to be here to enjoy some of the fun and success.  Oh, bother.  Being down sucks.  I know it won't last but it sure is ugly while it's here.  You guys rock.  Thanks.

  Hugs, Zooks!  And RATS.

You mentioned one reason she rejected was that your ms is too short -- but I remember you saying you had a couple of great scenes up your sleeve.  Would you consider writing those scenes before starting on Query Revenge?  :cover:

all right. now get back out there! ;D

it sucks about the R, but you'll get there. what didn't work for W will probably resonate with another agent.

First, to august - sorry I didn't offer you a kind word about your 40 minute rejection from W - last night was all about me.  I think I've finished wallowing now (especially with the support from you guys).  august - I'm sorry about your negative experience w/her.  I know you're going to land a great agent soon - and I'm not blowing smoke.

@Magic_Seeker - Thanks.  Yeah, I was thinking of things to write - perhaps a scene with Billie and her leading lady who's running off to Iceland (pre-volanic eruption) but I don't want to just write stuff to fill up pages, you know?  Aren't we only supposed to write what moves the plot along?  Grant it, mine doesn't truly have a plot....

@ lexcade - thanks.  I appreciate the pep talk.  Will get back to writing - and still keep querying.

You guys rock!  karma to you all.

You have an interesting mix of characters and some solid conflict to move the story along. Someone will get it and love it.

Aw Zooks that sucks, but you know what - there a loads of other agents out there.  You WILL find one.  I counted my rejections on the O.W.L's I have had 45.  Now if that isn't for the want of trying.  Big HUGS and remember Penguin UK are accepting submissions until the end of October without having to go through an agent. Give them a try - you never know.  And GOOD LUCK

hi mickip and Alniah - thanks - and karma - to you both for your kind words.  Yeah, I know - I acted like such a big silly like I've never been rejected before.  What's up with that?  I dunno.  Maybe I thought this time would be different.  If I had a nickle for every time (where's my Groucho eyebrows and cigar?).  I sent out a couple of revenge queries - for The One - and am working on increasing the word count.  Thanks again.  You guys rock!
