Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson

I'm pleased with the originality of it, but just haven't had time to finish.

Right now I'm on the eigth month chapter of What to Expect when You're Expecting. Seven down and two to go! (Patrick-this is where I need a smiley that looks exhausted from being pregnant for so long)
May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, and rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, may no spiders fall on your head.

Congratulations.

 :p1:

You know, I actually seen a pregnant smiley but didn't include because I thought it would be too rare a thing.  See how I am.

And congratulations on your 25th post and getting your avatar, too.  Probably not as major as having a baby, but damn close.

What I've read most recently are three YA books by Gail Giles: Shattering Glass, Dead Girls Don't Write Letters, and What Happened to Cass McBride?
She spoke at our SCBWI meeting about drawing readers in from the beginning and keeping them hooked. (Her books have the best first lines).
I didn't get much writing done during that time because I could not put these books down.  Luckily they're pretty fast reads so it didn't keep me away for too long.
I also just read Harlan Coben's newest novel, The Woods.  Another author that's hard to put down once you start.

Didn't you think that Heaven sounded really boring, though?  I hope it isn't really like that.  And I found the resolution of that book to be very unsatisfying.  It'll be interesting to see what they do with it in the movie version.

When Christ And His Saints Slept by Sharon Penman.

It's alright, but I'm only about two chapters in, and I put it down several months ago to read Harry Potter again ... I'm yet to pick it back up. :s

Ahh, Kite Runner.  Very good book.  I like it when a first-time author does that well.  Of course, I'm always disappointed when it isn't me.  I wonder how long he had to query?

Stardust by Neil Gaiman. The movie just came out, and I began the book this morning. I hope I can finish it by tonight (unlikely). So far it's amazing. The writing style is intoxicating, and the beginning reminds me of Goblin's Market by Christina Georgina Rossetti.

And I really liked The Kite Runner. It was a bit disturbing (those of you who read it all know what I'm talking about), but still VERY well structured. We analyzed it in class, and how it's an alteration of the classic Hero's Journey. The writing, of course, is nice and flowing, and the characters are very real.

You know, I think I oughta read that after I finish Wicked Lovely. Have you ever heard of Idlewild by Nick Sagan? (Carl Sagan's son)

I've heard of it, but I don't know what it's about.
