Schiavone Literary Agency
« on: February 13, 2008, 07:55:12 AM »
Has anyone here had any dealings with Schiavone? Or has anyone heard anything about him? I can't seem to find much online about him other than reviews he's written, and other small things. Nothing positive or negative. I looked over his client list, and didn't see any big names. But P&E lists him as legit. He requested my full manuscript, and I'm just wondering if anyone has more info on him.

Thanks for your input,

Yarnsome

Hi Suzanne,

Case Solved.  www.publishersmarketplace.com/members/profschia/

I typed in Schiavone Literary Agency on Google and found a literary agency. But there is also the possibility there is a serial killer using that name as well. As a professional PI, I recommend you send out the full and hope it gets to the literary agency and not to a serial killer.

I hope this helps you. Congrats on the the request for a full.

There's actually a thread below that mentions the agency.

See: I'M NOT SAYING THEY ARE GOOD OR ANYTHING, BUT ...

Yes, thanks, I checked out Publishers Marketplace and all the other standard agency listing sites. I just want to know if anyone knows more about this agency than what the listings state. Any help is appreciated!

All I know is that the guy used to be a professor in the same university system I work for. He seems to prefer nonfiction.

What are your concerns about the agency? Anything specific? They look legitimate to me.

One, I don't recognize any authors that he's agented.
Two, there's almost no conversation about him online, which I find unusual.

I love your name, Nostrabuttus. Is there a story behind it?

Hi yarnsome,

Yes, of course there is a story behind my name. Do you really think someone would have a name like Nostrabuttus and not have a story behind it?

How It All Started
by
Nostrabuttus

My great-great-great-great-great. . . great grandfather was born in the early 16th century. He was known to spin a tale or two, occasionally. He had a mistress named Julie Anne Buttus, who gave birth to Nostra...'s child. Julie Anne named the child Lerrett. Lerrett Buttus grew up to be somewhat of a . . .

( The middle of the story removed due to length )

And that is how I ended up with the name Nostrabuttus.

The End.

The middle is twelve hundred pages long so I left that part out, but I would be happy to send it to you.

Dear Mr. Nostrabuttus,

Although I appreciate the opportunity to read your full manuscript, and love your story line, our agency is currently swamped. Perhaps another agent will be a better choice for your talent. Remember, it only takes one agent to start your career!  :)

(Paraphrased from an actual letter I received from an agent!)

Yarnsome

P.S. Thanks for everyone's input. Esp. the comment about no talk online = no slander. I like that slant.

Dear Ms. Yarnsome:

Your letter was by far the sweetest rejection letter I have ever received. It brought tears to my eyes and gave me hope. Would you please forward the name of that one agent who will start my career.

Forever in your debt.

Sincerely,

Nostrabuttus

I checked Agent Query for his agency. I've heard of him before, and there seems to be nothing shady there.
