REQUESTED MANUSCRIPT

I sent my first query out to about 20 agents.  This morning I had an EMAIL asking for my manuscript to be sent via SNAIL MAIL.  He said he was running behind and to allow him 90 days.

Is this odd - or natural?  I'm referring to the crossover from email to postal.

I can't find this particular agent on QT and he HAD to come from here, so I asked Patrick to check it out for me.

It has happened to me both ways, sent a snail-mail query and got a request via email and vice-versa. Congrats!

Ya!!! Congratulations! Hope the confusion clears up soon! I think I've read that some still prefer to request manuscripts through snail mail, but have no personal experience with it. Good luck!

Undergods, Alniah and lovinlife....DON'T BE EXCITED FOR ME!!  I refuse to even go in that direction.

1) he asked for my synopsis, and it's up on QT right now!  Go and start digging on it for me!

2) he asked for my bio.  I don't have one.  I'm alive.  That's the extent of it.

3) my manuscript will arrive on the day he's in a foul mood, and it will be covered in peanut butter and jelly stains

4) my name will be mis-spelled.

It's been SO LONG since I used anything other than email.  Does the post office still require stamps???

Yes, the P.O. still needs stamps, but you can buy postage online for your ms and tape it on the box.  Soooooooo much easier than the P.O. -- and a little cheaper.

You do have a bio.  You live in the hills of Indiana, and blast your shotgun at intruders.    Hmm, maybe don't include that last bit.  But anything that relates to your book, and especially your query, will do.  Just a paragraph or two about you, your hobbies, and your dreams.

I've had crossovers (email to mail, mail to email) at least twice that I can remember.  I don't think it's unusual.

4) my name will be mis-spelled.

You aren't going to believe this but I had my husband proofread my manuscript tonight before I mail it out tomorrow.

I thought he was joking when he said  "Uh...Dana?  I believe you mis-spelled your last name in the header."

I did.  Doesn't everyone?  Thank goodness it was mis-spelled in the HEADER.  Easy to take care of.

Congrats, Dana.  Nothing weird here.  Some people just prefer to still turn pages and mark as they go along.  A fan of ms. Snarks myself, she always said that when offered a choice use snail mail.  She thought it was more professional and improved your odds, so I've been mailing left and right, or at least not ignoring Agents that only want snail mail submissions.

Congratulations.  Having an agent ask for a submission snail mailed after you emailed your query isn't common, but it happens. Laura Bradford almost always asks for partials sent via snail mail. Some agents just like the paper feel.
