it is a non fiction manuscript and I actually thought it was a good assignment - i think the agent wants to see the full scope of my credentials on the subject...

Sounds like trtimm2 writers nonfiction, where it's the norm to be able to show why any particular writer has the credentials/experience/whatever to write a book. They use the information as a part of the pitch. Not often asked for with fiction writers, though it sometimes helps if there have been other novels (especially in the same genre), short stories sold to literary magazines, etc.

One agent just called me outright when she finished the ms, so yes it does happen.

see, just thinking about that freaks me out. I really need to print off my updated questions to ask agents, on the off chance i ever get a call
