Always verify publisher's information before sending your query. Verify the publisher's query preferences, contact information, genres of interest, and if the publisher is still open to queries.

Although QueryTracker tries to stay current, it is not always easy. Never trust any single source for publisher information (and yes, this includes QueryTracker).

Review the user comments for more information, and always follow exactly what it says on the publisher's website.

Do they publish any cozy mysteries that are less than 70,000 words? When you see where it says to submit to certain editors it says "word count for mysteries is 75,000 - 100,000 words" but the other summary for the other editors doesn't say that.

Though not specified on their website, they aren't acquiring New Adult.

Submitted query to Elizabeth May. Received auto reply that she’s out on maternity leave and to submit to another editor. I wish they had updated their website with this information. I did searches to be sure she was the one I wanted to submit to and made sure to customize my query with the reasons in which she would be a good fit.

Authors, if you query Kensington and receive a full request, I warn you not to get too excited.

My experience with both WENDY McCURDY and ELIZABETH MAY: If either of these editors request your manuscript, you will never hear from them again. They will ignore any polite follow-ups.

Maybe editors at Kensington simply enjoy a free read at hardworking authors' expense.Unfortunate, but true. I am merely reporting my experience. Their unprofessional behavior leads me to wonder whether they gather manuscripts and use them for their own gain.
