Send a Query to Hillary Fazzari at Bradford Literary Agency
Hi all! As an agent, I’m a generalist and acquire widely across genres, age bands, and book types. I am not always open to unsolicited queries in all of the areas I represent, however.
At the moment I am open to unsolicited queries in:
- Picture Books
- Graphic Novels (for kids)
- Middle-Grade
- YA
- New Adult
- Commercial Adult Fiction
And I have areas of high focus in each of these.
For Picture books, I’m most looking for:
- Funny, unexpected, character-centric picture books (like ELIOSE or DON'T LET THE PIGEON DRIVE THE BUS!) for young readers aged 1-5.
- Offbeat or unexpected ecosystem-centric books (like CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS or BROWN BEAR WOOD: IT'S BUSY DOWN IN THE WOODS TODAY) for young readers aged 1-6.
- Interactive books (like I SPY or WHERE’S WALDO) for elementary aged kids.
- Nonfiction, myth, and history books for readers aged 6-8.
For Middle-grade, I’m most looking for:
- Stories for kids who are “scrollers” and need consistent input to transition to reading.
- Interactive, interesting format, and illustrated stories: this includes LitRPG, Choose Your Own Adventure stories, stories that include a Search & Find or "solve this mystery" element, alternate formats, combined formats, fun and/or goofy illustrations, and more!
- Adventure, quest, and mystery books with interesting, especially offbeat or lovable oddball protagonists. (THE FOURTH STALL, TIMMY FAILURE, SPACE CASE, DRAGON RUN, and the FUNJUNGLE books are very indicative of my taste). I also like both big adventure and school-adventure (THE WORST SCHOOL TRIP EVER, TAPPER TWINS, THE CHRONICLES OF EGG, and anything with great humor!).
- Crossover books for lower middle grade readers and upper middle grade readers (humor is often a big element I look for especially in lower middle grade with drama something I love seeing in upper middle grade).
- Oddball stories (like ANIMORPHS) that hook into things kids are interested in.
For YA and New Adult, I’m most looking for:
- Compelling fantasy of all types with big relationships (and ships!)
- High impact, addictive-to-read, dangerous books (like HUNGERGAMES and not necessarily in only dystopia; I’d love to see fantasy or sci-fi with that same sort of can’t-put-down vibe).
- Big world urban fantasy
- Big, dangerous sci-fi (think STRANGER THINGS, books set in space or off our planet, or futuristic)
- High drama and fun, soapy material (GOSSIP GIRL, TO ALL THE BOYS I’VE LOVED BEFORE, and in terms of TV comps TEEN WOLF)
- Some books that don't just have great romances but have great bromances in them as well (in terms of TV comps MERLIN, TEEN WOLF).
For Adult fiction, I’m most looking for commercial work at this point in the following areas:
- Compelling fantasy with or without big romance that keeps me on the edge of my seat!
- Thrillers with bite and something new to say.
- Horror that weaves in romance and humanity (I’d love an adult RAVEN BOYS and I adored THE RESURRECTIONIST).
- Weird, dark, feminist-centric, critique-of-capitalism genre work
- Witty horror-tinged fantasy, including cozy
- Futuristic worlds (cozy included)
For Graphic Novels, I only represent graphic novels for kids and am most looking for:
- Material with an element of fantasy.
- Material deeply hooked into what kids are interested in (be it elementary readers, middle school readers, or high school readers).
- Hybrid material that may utilize both graphic novel and prose (or some other format or element) combined.
