ABOUT WRITERS HOUSE
Writers House was founded in 1973 with a vision for a new kind of literary agency, one that would combine a passion for managing a writer's career with an integrated understanding of how storytelling works. With this two-pronged philosophy, Writers House has played a critical role in developing the careers of hundreds of novelists and non-fiction authors. We believe in offering our clients not only our expertise in negotiating contracts, but in contributing to all phases of the editorial and publishing processes. Our goal is to maximize the value of our clients' work by providing hands-on editorial and marketing advice, as well as leading the way in branding, licensing, and selling film/TV, foreign, audio, dramatic, and serial rights.
ABOUT ALEXANDRA LEVICK
Alexandra Levick (she/her) is currently a senior literary agent at Writers House working with picture book, middle grade, young adult, and adult creators at every stage in their careers. From guiding debuts through their first publication, to helping mid-career authors who are looking to break out in new ways, and finding untapped avenues to help launch established authors into lasting success. Alexandra is a highly editorial agent who works with her clients hand-in-hand to help them hone their work to the best of their abilities. One of her goals is to make sure creators are as informed as possible about the publishing industry on the whole, so they can make the best choices for their business. And as their agent, she aims to be a strong advocate through every step of the publication process and beyond.
In the last several years, her clients have won or been finalists for a number of awards and accolades including: National Book Award, Governor General’s Award, PEN/Hemingway Award, LA Times Book Award, Lambda Literary Award, Ezra Jack Keats Award, a wide selection of ALA awards, Barnes & Noble Award, Andrew Carnegie Medal, Edgar Award, British Book Award, and numerous state and international awards.
Alexandra's career in agenting started at Writers House in 2015. She had the privilege of apprenticing under several agents during that time. Later on, she worked with the agency at large as the Media Rights Manager for film and tv, helping to match clients to co-agents, negotiating film deals, and taking meetings with producers, studios, and co-agencies. Prior to starting at Writers House, she worked as a bookseller in both the adult and children’s markets, as well as on the house side of the publishing business in publicity. Alexandra holds a Masters of Science in Publishing: Digital and Print Media, with a specialization in Media Content Development from New York University and a Bachelor of the Arts in English, with a concentration in Creative Writing from the University of Rochester.
Alexandra Levick is a member of the AALA and has been a 2024, 2025, and 2026 Literary Agents of Change Mentor.

I am actively growing my picture book, middle grade, young adult, and adult lists.
What am I looking for?
Picture book author-illustrators, picture book illustrators (who hope to write one day!), a wide range of middle grade and YA, and more speculative-leaning or genre-bent adult works (romance, horror, fantasy).
I’m committed to working with writers from diverse backgrounds and am looking to put forth a list of outstanding creators who will be able to provide windows, mirrors, and sliding glass doors (thank you, Dr. Rudine Sims Bishop) into all kinds of experiences. I’m particularly looking for own-voice stories about historically underrepresented identities and cultures.
No matter the genre or age-range, I crave a distinctive voice and strong thematic point behind the work—I want to run screaming to my friends and family about your book because there is so much to discuss. I love character-driven stories that revolve around BIG topics (discussing things like mortality or grief in a new and hopefully somewhat uplifting way is always an instant lightbulb!). I'm not looking for 'issue books,’ rather I’d like to represent authors and stories that stand for more than just a good yarn; I’d like to represent creators who provoke conversations around important and necessary topics in our world today. I don’t just want contemporary versions of these stories, either. Send me your fantasy, your sci-fi, your genre-bender!
Some words that describe my favorite kinds of stories: transportative, authentic, heartfelt, magical, empowering, breathless, hopeful, timeless, innovative, adventurous, audacious, whimsical, and honest.
I work with creators at every stage in their careers—from guiding debuts through their first publication, to helping mid-career authors who are looking to break out in new ways, and finding untapped avenues to help launch established authors into lasting success.
What isn't the best match for me? I'm not the right agent for soapy books about murder, crime scene investigations, police procedurals, true crime, satire, military thrillers, or erotica. I am not accepting submissions for picture book text-only authors or screenplays.
