Received automatic email to say that she's on vacation until June 21st.

I assume she will look at queries when she gets back and has caught up on everything else!

I hope you are well. Thank you so much for sending your work and for bearing with me while I read and considered it. It’s an interesting concept – but I’m sorry to say I just didn’t completely fall in love with it.

After much consideration I’ve concluded that I think you’ve got something, but I’m just not sure your writing is quite right for me. I’m really sorry not to be coming back with more positive news, especially as I know how much time and energy you must have put into your writing so far, but reading is so personal and somehow it’s just not clicking with me in the way I’d need it to, to offer you representation.

As you know we are a relatively small agency and thus limited in the number of new clients we can take on. For this reason we really are super-selective and only sign up those authors whose work we feel most passionately about. As you can imagine, there isn’t a vast number of those – which is what makes it a good filter for us – but it does also mean that there are talented and imaginative authors such as yourself who we just can’t take on.

I do wish you all the very best with placing your writing elsewhere, and for the future long-term success of it.

With all best wishes
Jo

Rejection is very nicely built, but the same as one below - with phrases: "It’s an interesting concept", "I think you’ve got something"
Good to hear anyway

One of the best rejections I have ever had. Fantastic. Only regret is that I queried the first version of my book which has since been rewritten! I think I messed up my shot :(

Form rejection after granting exclusivity over my full manuscript for over two months. Pretty disheartening to not get any feedback after the long wait but I understand how swamped agents are. Maybe I'll just be more wary of exclusivity in the future.

Did anyone get a confirmation after sending the email? I didn't.

Looks like I was "lucky" to get a rejection as she doesn't seem to respond to many queries. The submission guidelines were vague, so I kept the query letter as requested - a one line elevator pitch, housekeeping, I added one sentence on where I am based vs my nationality (not requested but replaced a line about no competitions won). No further details added about the project. I wasn't sure if I wasn't providing enough information in the letter (I submitted the requested materials, of course), but it got a response.
