Thank you for sending me your query for [book title]. Unfortunately, I'm afraid I must pass on this project; I wasn’t as pulled in by the opening pages as I'd hoped.

The publishing industry is subjective, and what doesn't work for me might be just what another agent is looking for. I wish you the best of luck in your writing as you work toward publication.

Best,

Rejected but helpful letter. Stated she isn’t looking for monster horror or horror set in the future right now.

I was sitting on the edge of my seat for this response, as based on her twitter comments, I'm pretty sure I fell into her maybe pile, and I was scared for a while there that I would never get out. Rejection after three and a half weeks, in which she stated exactly why she was ultimately passing. I really appreciated that, especially after scrutinizing over the query stats for three weeks. From all I've seen, she seems like an absolutely wonderful person.

Based on her twitter comments, she'll be closed to queries for the rest of the year to focus on reading and editing manuscripts. She says of the queries she hasn't responded to, half are in a maybe pile and half haven't been read yet.

"Also, if I requested your work through a conference or pitch event, you can still sub to me! The links I provided for those will still work."

Query submitted 10/1/20
Form rejection received 10/5/20
humor/satire, 110k
(edit: based on the other comments I'm seeing, this might not have been a form rejection. I think Ms. Clyburn just knows what she wants in a book right away.)

REALLY quick turnaround time, which I appreciate. I've been submitting to agents since early July and so far Ms. Clyburn is the only response I've received. Even if it's a rejection, it's at least nice to get a response so quickly so I'm not left wondering for months.

Same response as the others.
She wanted dark humor, I gave her it...she couldn't connect with the voice (which was a teenage male), also I'm pretty sure she wasn't fond of the porno jokes in my first chapter haha...i’m a woman writer for context
Not so worried about this one, I'm going to keep on moving!
