50-day form rejection
75k thriller/suspense

Dear ___,

Thank you so much for your query. I appreciate the opportunity to consider your work, but unfortunately, after careful consideration, I have decided to bow out. I am truly sorry not to be able to offer you representation, and I wish you the very best of publishing luck as you move forward.

Unfortunately, publishing is a business that necessarily involves a lot of rejection, at every stage. One of the most difficult things for us as agents is to have to say no. Please do try to keep this one "no" in perspective. This is a highly subjective business, and another agent may adore ____. All it takes is one "Yes." I wish you success in finding that "Yes."

___, thank you for thinking of me and giving me this opportunity to consider your work.

Best,
Paige

Requested full manuscript.

Dear Tamika,

Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to consider ROUX, and for your patience as I considered it. Although there is much to recommend ROUX, I really love the generational storytelling and the line level writing is lovely. I'm afraid that I didn't quite have the editorial vision for this project that I would need to in order to take it on. This is honestly one of the hardest passes to do because I enjoyed this book so much as a reader, but just wasn't sure how to best serve you as an editor/agent. For that reason, I have decided to step aside. I have no doubt that you will find a good home for ROUX. I am truly sorry not to be able to offer you representation at this time, Tamika, and I wish you the very best of publishing luck as you move forward.

Please remember, a “no” is simply a “not yet.” I hope you continue writing and if you’d like to submit a new project, I welcome the opportunity to review it.

I wish you success in finding that "Yes," whether with ABLA or another agent and publisher.

Tamika, thank you for thinking of me and giving me this opportunity to consider your work.

Best,
Paige
