#APIpit EQ: 5/5/22
Full request 6/29/22 with nice personal note: "I just finished reading this and REALLY enjoyed it. I adore a mightier-with-the-pen-style character - <MC> reminds me a lot of Lysande in E J Beaton’s THE COUNCILLOR and I’d really love to see what happens next in the storyline. That’s a long winded way of asking for the full if it’s still available? :-)"
Nudged: 9/11/22
Kind personalized rejection: 9/12/22. "I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to respond. I was away for most of July and August with kid’s summer vacation - and then got hit by Covid last week so spent the whole week feeling very sorry for myself. Just back in the office today and wanted to get back to you about <PROJECT>. I really thought there was a lot to like about this book and I have sat on it for a few weeks to pull my thoughts about it together. I loved <MC> - that whole pen being mightier than the sword - and her developing a power that’s both subtle and different from the existing magic system so she can subvert it - was wonderful. [...] I think my main issue with the book though was that there was SO much going on, so many ideas, so many themes and different aspects to follow - that it actually felt a little convoluted and confusing at times. I thought that there was a lot of scope to develop some of those other more minor characters a lot more [...] I do think it would need quite a lot of editorial work to pull the story together and develop the characters and voices more on-page - but I thought the writing was very strong and, as a first novel, this came very close to ticking a lot of what I’m looking for in a book. So while this book is a no, it’s a regretful one and a definite invitation for you to send anything else over that you might be working on as I’d love to take a look at it."

I thought I might've gotten personalization - but it turns out I got the same response that mawidmaier got, with "well-written, an interesting premise, and the characters were well-developed." and then that it "didn't tick the boxes required". So now, I'm thinking that she might just say this to everyone, which is kind of a bummer.

CNR: 1/3/2022
ER: 9/6/2022!

She sent a nice response when she didn't have to. I appreciate her taking the time to tell me that my submission was at least considered after all this time.

"Many thanks or submitting your work for me to consider. I have to apologise that it's taken me this long to respond but for some reason, I found a set of submissions that had been sent through to a random folder that I rarely check. I'm afraid that your submission was one of the casualties. I have no doubt at all that you've since found representation or moved onto something else - but I did want to respond as I try to do so with every query I receive. I did actually read over YOUR WORK and thought that there was a lot to like about it. It was well-written, an interesting premise and the characters were well-developed. However, for me personally, I'm afraid it didn't quite tick the boxes required for me to make an offer of representation. As you know, every read is subjective - and this was a well put together submission so I've no doubt someone will pick it up - if they haven't already! I do wish you all the best with your writing and can only apologise profusely for the lack of response until now. Best wishes."

Is this agent open to queries? Her website says no, but the query manager submission link goes to a form you can fill out. I want to submit, but don't want it to go direct to trash.

EQ: August 24, 2021
CNR: October 26th, 2021
ER: May 6th, 2022!

Rejection was a nice form stating she's clearing her backlog:
"I am sorry about the delay in a response - it's taken me some time to go through the 600 submissions I received during this time period and get back to everyone."

Included a nice form statement about the work:
"As it was, I did read your partial and thought there was a lot to like about this story. I found the writing well-paced and the characters original, well-depicted and easy to empathise with."

10/8/20 - original query
Closed this out in December 2020 but received a rejection 18/2/21.

Long wait but apologized for that and said some personalised stuff which I appreciate!
