We all wonder if our query letter is even getting the agent to read pages, and this response made me think "at least my query letter is working", but then I saw that this is her form response for her rejections. So maybe my pages weren't even looked at and my query did not intrigue? Confused. Although I do appreciate a response, any response.
"Thank you for sending your query for XXXX. Unfortunately, despite the intriguing premise, the opening pages didn’t reveal this manuscript to be a good fit for me, so I’m going to pass. Publishing is a subjective industry and others may feel differently, so I encourage you to keep at it. I appreciate the opportunity to read your work and wish you success on your writing and publication journey."

Thank you to those who posted snippets of their similar rejection (@Lightof Beauty, @Caitlin22, @Roadmap).

Same awkward and clunky "opening pages didn't unfold as smoothly as I'd hope" form rejection.

10/20 - Submitted via QT
10/30 - Polite form rejection, in part: "While the premise certainly intrigued me, the opening pages didn’t unfold as smoothly as I'd hoped, so I’m going to pass."

9/28: queried with 1st 15 pages
11/7: got a personalized rejection.
Her helpful comments were very similar to another agents, who requested a revise and resubmit for my opening chapters. I recently finished the revision and let Anne know that, asking if she'd be interested in seeing the new version. She agreed (and responded in like 5 min)! So I just sent her the first 20 pages / 4 chapters on 11/7.
1/12 rejection
