@theoldtiredroad A rapid response is not an insult. I'm saying this as a person who once got a rejection in 14 minutes.

Consider that your query should be less than 500 words long and the average adult reads about 250 words per minute. In those two minutes or so, the agent needs to see something unique and attractive (to them) about your book, or there's no point in reading anything else in the query package. If you happen to clear that hurdle--and most of the time, you won't--then you probably do get some extra time as the agent reads sample pages, synopsis, or whatever else is in the query package. But even that doesn't take all that long, although depending on the agent's process, they may set it aside to think about or re-read. In most cases, most of the time, your query isn't getting hours and days of thoughtful scrutiny, it's just waiting in line for its turn.

A rapid response, therefore, doesn't mean you're being deprived of your just share of attention; it means you aren't waiting as long to receive it.

@Briley462 I feel your pain. I spent about a year and a half trying to generate interest in a SF/Horror novella, which is considered one of the more marketable genres for novellas, and I came up dry. If you look at the data explorer view of most agents, you'll find very, very few requests for novella-length material. Even Jennifer Jackson, who repped THE MURDERBOT DIARIES, only showed one novella-length request in the last year the last time I looked. I'm told that length is just very hard to sell to editors. (I'm not sure why that is so but it's apparently true.) I did find an agent who's working with me to expand my novella to novel length as an R&R, and that seems to be the best I can hope for.

Ok to each their own but for how many questions and demands this agent asks from querying writers (as if it's some dating app) on her QueryTracker form, the least she can do is be responsive instead of ghosting. And she makes it REQUIRED for writers to essentially bend backwards for her to look into a crystal ball and see into how they'd be a good fit for her, which is really impossible to do at this early stage of the process on top of the other nonsense stuff she requires authors to answer on her form?

There's a reason why most agents (except this one) do not do this on their QueryTracker form. Those are questions you ask over an offer of rep phone call, or once you've signed with the author and meet up for coffee to get to know each other more personally to ask about their personal interests and such, NOT on a QueryTracker form. And even if so, it's something that's asked as optional for authors to answer by choice and for fun, certainly NOT as a REQUIREMENT. Very inappropriate. She's expecting a lot of trust upfront from writers that she has NOT earned from anyone, nor has worked for yet. I'd stay away. No one should pour more into a QueryTracker form than is industry norm/standard, just to be ghosted or to be rejected in a few hours. Ridiculous and outrageous.

I got a rejection after an HOUR AND A HALF! What was more insulting was that her form rejection stated "after careful deliberation".
Folks, beware of submitting to this one!
