I'm confused. I was trying to submit to Tessa Shaffer--used the link from her page on the Corvisiero website--but it is tracking under Marisa Corvisiero. and the email I got from querymanager said I submitted to Marisa.

Q: 8/17
9/23 Semi-personalize rejection. The first I've gotten in 30 rejections, so I guess that's a step forward?
At least I got feed back that my synopsis and query spoke to them, so that's one less thing to fret about.

Queried Tessa back in June, had a quick Full request from her intern Adam. About 6 weeks later I had a reply pass on the Full, again from Adam. The feedback was pretty detailed, and quite sweet, but disappointing to come from the intern. Many of the comments went directly against the majority of praise I have had from other agents for the same areas of the MS, so I do wonder about the credibility of an intern critiquing manuscripts. Otherwise, it was nice to have a timely reply.

Rejected by Adam on 08/21- same as the rest :( growth mindset/beta readers, which like others, I find a bit condescending. Just say it's not a good fit and move on.

Thank you for submitting your query for XXXX to Corvisiero Literary Agency for our consideration. Even though we found great qualities within your query and synopsis, we didn't connect with the sample pages as strongly as we had hoped in order to champion the project. Please keep in mind that this industry is crazy subjective--what didn't hook us right away, could be just what another agent is looking for.

We are sorry to not have better news to share. We hope you take this decline as an encouraging "no" that is simply helping you find your way to the right "yes". Keep honing your skills, learning about the industry, and always embrace a growth mindset. We're rooting for you!

Best of luck,
Adam (on behalf of Tessa Shaffer)

Dear J. Lynne,

Thank you for submitting your query for PROJECT to Corvisiero Literary Agency for our consideration. Even though we found great qualities within your query and synopsis, we felt that the story needed a stronger hook did immediately draw us into the narrative. For this reason, we didn't connect with the sample pages as strongly as we had hoped in order to champion the project. Please keep in mind that this industry is crazy subjective--what didn't hook us right away, could be just what another agent is looking for.

Thank you so much for sending me_________ and allowing me to consider. Even though we found many qualities in your work, and we loved the intriguing concept of this story, we didn't connect with the dialogue as much as we would need to fully champion the project.

Of course, this is just one opinion, and I'd encourage you to send your manuscript to Beta Readers or find a Critique Partner to gain further valuable feedback.

I'm sorry to not have better news, but I do encourage you to continue writing and striving toward publication. Keep honing your skills, learning about the industry, and always embrace a growth mindset.

Keep writing, we're rooting for you!

Best of luck,
Adam

To me, this rejection is meaningless, and I bet most people get this one from Adam. I do not see it as a nice warm and helpful note. Just a boilerplate rejection.

Took a real shot with this one and I'm pleasantly surprised by the feedback given to me by Adam on behalf of Tessa. Said that while they found many qualities in the work, and loved the intriguing concept, they didn't connect with the dialogue as much and suggested utilising beta readers and/or critique partners.

All in all, a very lovely rejection letter even finishing off with "we're rooting for you!" :)

Queried 5/27/22
Full request 6/9/22 by Tessa Shaffer
Personalized but not terribly helpful rejection 6/14/22 by Tessa's intern Adam...
and I'll be honest, it felt off to have a personalized rejection on a full come from an intern. I'm a little confused why a newer agent who just opened up to queries is not reading their own requested fulls. Rejections are never easy, but this was one of the least impressive I've received.
