FR: 01/25
YA retelling 50k
PR: 01/25 (Query + Synopsis + first 50 pages)
Upper YA Fantasy ~75k
FR: 01/24/23
epic fantasy, 101K
Slightly tailored form like others have received, with a nice touch: "In search of that elusive personal "fit" I have to pass on a lot of truly interesting projects. Including yours, which I waffled over for several days (if that's at all helpful). It really just is a fit thing."
Helpful? Yes. Painful? Also yes.
PR: 1/18/23 (query + synopsis + 25 pages)
Kind, personalized rejection: 1/20/23
Said it was an issue of slow pacing not being their taste, but referenced my partial as being 50 pages (as I'd seen in other comments of PRs here) instead of the 25 they'd asked for. The longer partial would have included the things they were hoping to see, but alas. They said I could R&R with a more condensed opening, though, so there's that!

Super kind and VERY personalized rejection 12/15/2022
They named specific worldbuilding from my opening pages and said that the rejection wasn't craft-based. So, basically (to read between the lines) they didn't feel like they could sell vampires. Seems super sweet!! Will definitely query my next project.
102k Paranormal Fantasy
Partial Request: 12/8/22 (First 50pgs + Query + Synopsis)
Rejection 12/12/22 but with the most actionable, kind, and engaging feedback I've ever seen with permission to resubmit after edits! I'm glowing.

Personalized full rejection, praise for my craft but not a "fit".

I appreciate the fast, personalized response. She said it was a matter of taste, and that she had no constructive feedback, only that the voice was younger than she was looking to represent at this time. For a 17yo POV character nearing his 18th birthday, that others have read as too mature, I'm not sure how much older the voice can get. YA sounds like a hard sell to this agent atm.
That said, Allegra was very professional, and I appreciate the time she put into responding to my work. If I have an adult project to query in the future, she'll be on my list

Thank you for submitting XXXXX for my consideration—I appreciate being trusted with your work. Unfortunately, I have decided not to pursue the project further.
This is a subjective, taste-based opinion and is not intended as a condemnation of your craft or a reflection on your worth as a writer. In search of that elusive personal "fit" I have to pass on a lot of truly interesting projects.
I'm sorry not to write with better news and sincerely wish you the best of luck in the query trenches.
all best,
Allegra
