That's the problem with the personalized/semi-personalized rejection approach. If everyone gets the impersonal "not for me" letter, that's fine. If everyone gets the personal/semi-personal rejection mentioning positives, it can at least be a bit encouraging. But when you have some personalized/semi-personalized rejections and some completely impersonal rejections, those impersonal ones can end up leaving those authors feeling worse than if it was just a standard form letter for all, because, whether it is the intent of the agent or not, it gives the impression that the agent found nothing to like, or that it wasn't worth the effort of adding any personalization, leaving the author feeling insulted, like the query was a waste of our time and theirs.
Again, that may not be her intention, but that is a risk that comes along with mixing personalized/semi-personalized and entirely impersonal rejection letters.

Was happy with what I thought was a more personalized rejection after dozens of forms on this book, but nope, seems she likes a LOT of voices and concepts. I appreciate the effort to be nice given how soul crushing this process is for writers, and this agent seems genuinely splendid, but sometimes an impersonal and honest "not for me" letter feels better than a taste of false hope.
