Very polite but a rejection none the less.

Thank you for thinking of The Plains, but I'm afraid we're declining the opportunity to review more of your material. At this time, we're only able to take on new clients from existing client and colleague referrals. I'm sorry I don't bring better news, but do wish you the best of luck with this and all future endeavors.

Respectfully yours,
Christi Cardenas

Wow, almost seven weeks for a form R:

"Thank you for thinking of The Plains, but I'm afraid we're declining the opportunity to review more of your material. I'm sorry I don't bring better news, but do wish you the best of luck with this and all future endeavors."

I'd forgotten I even queried her.

She's fixed her typo now at least but other than that it's the same form letter. Three weeks, at least it's a decent turn around time.

About 2 weeks for this reply:

Thank you for thinking of our agency, but I'm afraid we're declining the opporutnity [sic] to review more of your material. I'm sorry I don't bring better news, but we do wish you the best of luck with this and all future endeavors.

does a typo make it personalized?

Argent asked, "does a typo make it personalized?"

No. Sorry. I got the same response with the same typo on the same day, but I waited over 3 weeks for it. Must be clean out the query inbox day at Plains.

Since she went out on her own, her genres have also changed. No longer does YA, MG and Children's Fiction.

Resubmitted my query to her new address at the Plains Agency today, 10/20/08. Thank you, kap_dk, for the info. Her Publishers Marketplace page says she wants the query and the first 2-5 pages.

Lazear has never responded to my original query, sent in September. I'll check to see if they have other agents representing fantasy lit, and then maybe resubmit there if they do.

Form letter rejection on 10/21 - exactly the same as the one posted by srm_me.
