Literary 110K. Short, but helpful personalized response. I feel very grateful when I get genuine feedback.

Such a LONG form rejection.

Dear ____,

Thank you for the opportunity to read a synopsis and excerpt of the above-mentioned work. Unfortunately, having carefully considered your proposal, I am not confident we would be able to place your work successfully with any of the publishers with whom we work most closely. Today’s market, as you must know, is fiercely competitive.

I remind you that I am only one in a sea of agents and that this is a highly subjective business. Another agent may respond quite differently to your work. I would therefore encourage you to get as much feedback as possible before choosing a course of action.

Nevertheless, I thank you for thinking of this agency and wish you the best in finding the right representation for your work.

Sincerely,

Andrew Lampack

Form rejection, but at least encouraging and he had the courtesy to reply....

Thank you for the opportunity to review a synopsis and excerpt of the above-mentioned work. Unfortunately, having carefully considered your proposal, I feel that I am not the agent for you. I can not attribute my decision to any particular flaw in your work; but in my search for clients, I wish only to represent those works with which I feel a real connection. Ultimately, this query did not spark that kind of enthusiasm.

Nevertheless, I appreciate your thinking of this agency and wish you the best in finding the right representation for your work.

Sincerely,

Andrew Lampack

ER 12/19/16 (Passed-doesn't feel confident.) This is the first time I've heard from Andrew, when I had closed out my queries and requeries for Venom and Chain Reaction with no answer.

ER: Form e-mail. It came after I'd written him off as a CNR. The form is polite. But it's still a form. Interestingly, it came at day 20 from my query and most rejections are at 22 days. He must have an auto-generated response, or something.

On 11/17/15, I've requeried Andrew Lampack with Venom. After I sent him a nudge earlier this month, it's now closed CNR. I'll try him in March with Chain Reaction.

4/25/16--On 2/26/16, I've requeried Andrew with Chain Reaction. After a nudge I've sent him two weeks ago, it's CNR.
