If you can call a rejection pleasant, this is a pleasant rejection. She sounds like a good agent to work with:
"Thanks for thinking of me for ATHENA'S ARENA, and for your patience while I reviewed the query. It's a compelling premise, but I didn't fall head over heels in love here, so I'm going to step aside on this one. I wish you the best of luck in finding the perfect agent for it soon. Keep writing!"

The nicest rejection I've ever received. Complimented my writing and explained why she thought she had to pass.

Thank you for your patience while I considered your query. While I wish I could write a personal response to every query I receive, time does not permit it.

Regretfully, your project is not a perfect fit with what I’m looking for at this time.

I wish you the best of luck in finding the right agent for your project soon. Keep writing!

Yours,
Danielle

Polite step aside 7/26 with a lovely detailed note about the strengths of my writing and why she wasn't quite the right fit for the manuscript.
Super professional.
Definitely query her.

Very nice response to query (she replied 40 days after I sent it):

"I like your energy and the project has a great voice. But. There's always a but, isn't there? I do very few memoirs, and most of those of late have had to do with food. So sadly, I'm not the perfect agent for this one. I hope you find the right agent soon. Best of luck to you!"

Sent same day.

4/27 Very kind personalized rejection today. (YES I am sad, but trying to see that she said some good stuff. Boohoo for me.)

I’ve had the chance to spend some time with your full manuscript, and I’ll get right to it—I have to pass on it for now. Your writing shows a lot of potential (I’m loving the voice). But the structure of the piece—the flashbacks and the diary entries and journals—that keeps me at more of a distance from the story than I’d hoped. Additionally, the pacing feels slow to me—very step-by-step, rather than honing in on the most important, tension-filled moments to keep moving your plot forward.

Given that I have these reservations, I’m not the right agent for this right now. I’m sorry I don’t have better news. This is a a tough email to write, as I see your potential, and I’ve no doubt you’re going to go far. I wish you the best of luck in whatever decision you make—whether signing with an agent now or waiting a bit. And do know that if you’re seeking rep in the future, I’d be happy to consider any future works you may have.

4/6/18 - Rejection: Very detailed on what did and did not work for her. High compliments to concept and characters, but didn't fall in love with the writing. Very polite and friendly, and so enthused in her response. Absolutely would query again!
