ER: The only agent to send a personalized rather than form response: "Thanks for contacting me about your work. It’s certainly a disturbing story and it’s difficult to imagine that something like that could even be possible, much less actually be happening. I ended up going down a bit of a rabbit hole in looking at some of the links below (just watched the John Oliver piece in its entirety). That said, I unfortunately don’t think it’s quite a fit for me as an agent, but I’m sure another agent will be excited to take this out for you, so I’ll just wish you all the best of success with the book going forward."

I have a feeling he was the only agent to say out loud what a great many are feeling: that the story just could not happen in America. If they or of that opinion, it is more than possible they believe their editor contacts will similarly respond. i am thus extremely grateful to David for his candor and, more particularly, encouragment,

ER 8/3 - Thanks for contacting me about your work. Unfortunately, I don’t think it’s quite a fit for me as an agent. However, I would encourage you to continue contacting other agents about your project, as often it’s just a matter of getting the material in front of enough people before you connect with someone who’ll be excited to represent it on your behalf. And of course, I wish you all the best of success with your work going forward.

I had a couple people asking what I sent to get a request, and it was just the query without pages. :)
