bleedrake: Wow, that last comment 'left behind' stuff. I bet that would make a cool series: the Left Behind chronicles: it could be about all this end-of times stuff. Yeah, that's the ticket. Mmmmm......left behind......

12/3/09 Sent email query to Gretchen
12/8/09 received request for partial
3/20/10 received snail mail form rejection from Bernadette Baker-Baughman

So, I guess she's reviewing all of Gretchen's left-behind stuff

zephyers1,
I can't say for sure what is going on inside the Baker's Mark Agency, but it was probably passed to another agent who is probably swamped. Since it's already been a few months for you, it should be okay to contact Bernadette Baker-Baughman and inquire about your MS. Good luck.

Patrick- thanks for the info- any idea on what is happening to MS that were requested and sent in to Gretchen? I've had one in for about 2 1/2 months now, like many others....

shegiles: If your status query was sent by email you might try a last-ditch status query sent by snail-mail. Sometimes that gets their attention one way or the other.

5 months since requested partial sent and no word after 3-month status inquiry. Best to not hold your breath on this one.

I thought it was nicer than most rejections, but now I see it's pretty much a form letter. :-(

Dear Mary,

Unfortunately, our adult fiction list is very specific at the moment, and we
are only reviewing more on an extremely limited basis at this time due to
our current list¹s needs and how we are trying to develop that list. I do
regret to tell you this, as your work sounds intriguing; however, I¹m sure
you will have no troubles finding an agent to represent your work.

We wish you all the best with your publishing endeavors.

Regards,

Gretchen

From Writer's Digest: http://www.writersdigest.com/article/24-agents-who-want-your-work-2009

FICTION INTERESTS: middle-grade and YA fiction, magic(al) realism, contemporary fiction and women’s fiction. Agent is interested in anything with an urban-fantasy touch (more Mike Carey than Maurice G. Dantec), and the middle-grade and YA should have edgy, true-to-life characters and dialogue. The contemporary and women’s fiction should have a wide entry point for its audience but a strong hook that makes it stand out from the crowd.
HOW TO CONTACT: “We prefer a query before you send us your ms. Query us via e-mail. Your query should be one page with no attachments and no chapters included in the body of the e-mail. Queries sent with attachments will be deleted unread. If, based on your query, we ask to see more of your work, we will request more material to be sent via the U.S. Postal Service. Work without a SASE will not be returned. Please do not submit any original mat

Sent query and received rejection same day with the same form letter that everyone else seems to be getting for YA
