After I queried, I got an auto-reply from New Leaf Literary saying that if I don't hear back in a month, I should assume that they've passed. But today I got a form rejection from Pete Knapp (another agent at New Leaf) with a note that Kathleen Ortiz is currently on maternity leave, so he's replying to her queries. The agency's website says not to query more than one agent from New Leaf. Even in these circumstances, does this mean that I can't re-query Kathleen Ortiz in six months? I'm a bit confused about what to do here. Opinions would be appreciated. Thanks!

CNR: 11/09/15 (As stated in their auto-responder if you do not hear back within 2-weeks time it is a no.)

Received automated e-mail response immediately:

Thank you for querying.

Your query has been received and will be reviewed by our team. If you don't hear from us within two weeks, it means that we will be passing on your work.

Please don't take a pass as a comment on you or your writing ability; it isn't intended to be one.

We wish you the best of luck with your submissions.

Sincerely,
The New Leaf Literary Team

Helpful rejection 11/2 - said she liked the voice and writing but that she already had too many contemp fantasy clients. Bummer
