Nudged after 96 days as her website said she'd caught up past the time I submitted, gave me really kind personalized feedback in her rejection.

you can hold them to whatever standard you want, but none of us have any means to enforce it. Batch rejection is not demoralizing. It's just a rejection. Yeah I'd love for agents to hold my hand and speak to me softly and reverently, but it ain't going to happen.
I think the fact that Victoria consistently responds shows that she still has work ethic, unlike most others who couldn't care less. The response rates have really plummeted in the past couple of years. And now even no response/formal rejection on full request is normal. She doesn't do that, and I hope she continues to respond in whoever way she sees fit instead of doing it the easy way and just ignoring us

I think we should hold agents to a higher standard than "at least they respond!"

Our job as querying writers is to make sure our submission package is as accurate and sound as possible. We put in a lot of work tailoring that package toward specific agents (especially since we are told from day one that batch queries = instant rejections).

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect the same level of professionalism from agents. I'm sure Victoria means well, but if she gets so many queries that even form rejections can't keep up, then it might be easier for her and querying writers if she cemented an "after 60 days = rejection" policy. Being BCC'd on an email is more demoralizing, in my opinion, than having to CNR a query.

I’m sorry but this complaining about batch response is ridiculous. At least she responds! When most don’t even bother nowadays. Not even on full requests.

Batch rejection. I would rather have no response than have a batch rejection like this. We work extremely hard on our submission packages as writers, the least she could do is either send individual emails or not send them at all if there is not enough time or she doesn't have assistants to help. Batch rejections are distasteful and deeply hurtful.

@Patrick, her Twitter and website both say she's closed to queries for December and will reopen in January.

I’m sure Victoria is a wonderful person and agent, but this is the first time in my years pursuing publishing that I’ve received a batch email rejection.

There’s something frustrating about being BCC’d on an email that doesn’t even include my name when writers are expected to do copious amounts of research and are told never to batch query.

Not taking this personally; I know she is inundated with queries, and I personally don’t mind form rejections. They’re a necessary evil in the business. But there has to be a better way that’s more respectful to the querying author than BCC’ing them on a mass email -- especially considering most of us wait upwards of two months (or more) for a response.

Personalized rejection I think? Said she loved my voice and writing but the pacing was off for her.
