ON 10/25/2010, I sent her an equery. Last month, after the response time expired, I did a follow up. It gave me the auto-reply on Elissa Frazier. I emailed her and got nothing back to her. So It's still closed as of now as I update the date. Does anything know anything on Kate? Couldn't find her by doing a Google search. Will try new agent in May.

Even though she is still listed on the agency's websites, replies from queries indicate that she is no longer working at Zachary Shuster Harmsworth.

Received auto email response 12/31/10 that Kate Caulfield is no longer with this agency. Referred me to Eliisa Frazier at efrazier@zshliterary.com if I needed assistance. I received a second auto reply that efrazier was out of the office and would respond after Jan 1. Eliisa Frazier may be new agent or assistant??

Yeah, I get your point, Patrick and agree. Quite confusing in that case.

EuroPorter,
With very few exceptions, no agent wants unsolicited submissions. They usually all prefer to start with the query. By explicitly stating this on their website, though, this agency has been responsible for a lot of confusion. I wish they would take it down.

It would be helpful if there were two terms -- one "closed to unsolicited submissions" and the other "closed to queries." That would make it clearest. Patrick, do your listings distinguish between not accepting unsoliticted queries and not accepting unsolicited submissions? I'm not sure I've seen it both ways on QT. And my guess is that even if you're trying to make the distinction, the agents themselves may not always be completely clear, as in this case?

Received an automatic reply this morning with my query...

"Kate Caulfield is no longer working at Zachary Shuster Harmsworth Literary Agency."

That's my take on it too, Tarzan.

Patsfan: It isn't exactly clear but I believe what they mean by a no unsolicited 'submission' is sending an entire manuscript without being solicited by them first through a query? Just sayin'. May be wrong.

The contact page says that they cannot accept "unsolicited submissions of any kind". Their "policies" page says something similar. But then their "agents" page lists the types of work that the agents are interested in aquiring. It seems like they're not taking submissions, but it isn't totally clear.

Someone from this agency requested a full with enthusiasm a couple of years ago and never got back with me about it and never responded to my inquiries. Strange.

I sent a query to Kate Caulfield, got something back saying she was out of the office and never received anything else.
