Thanks for your query. Unfortunately, I'm afraid I'm not the right agent for this project. I thank you for the chance to read your work and wish you much luck in getting ______ published.

Dear Sarah,
Thanks for your query. Your writing is accessible and you have a great ear for dialogue. Unfortunately, I’m afraid I didn’t connect with the story as much as I’d like to be able to truly champion the book, so I’m not the right agent for this project.

All best,

She complimented my strong writing and world building but said she didn't connect to the narrator enough to effectively champion the work.

So this is a long query story:

EQ: 6/11/15
Partial Request 9/28 (100 pgs) - stuck in spam filter
FR: 10/23/15
Phone call to discuss minor revision: 2/19/15
Sent revision: 3/13/16
Offer of Rep: 3/25/16 -- Accepted! Thrilled!

Note: I had other offers during that revision period, but those agents, while lovely, didn't have quite the same vision for the story. Caryn is awesome, and a real pleasure to work with. When they say it's important to find someone who "gets" and loves your work, they're right!

Good luck, all! I queried a previous ms 4 years ago and trunked it. Just keep moving and writing!

Short & polite form rejection, but at least she plugged my name and book title into it, so points for that.
