Update on this: Sent him an email in mid-March 2018 to withdraw my MS as I wanted to shelve that and query a new story. He replied almost a few hours later saying he was sorry that he couldn't read in time and looked forward to my next query.

Well, guess you have a be a popular youtube personality to get his attention. Cool.

Ah, that explains much, thanks, udonnoodles.

And what do you know, I've rewritten my novel over the last year into 1POV and I've just re-queried him.
Dunno if this is too cool to do, alas, I couldn't hold back.

Yes - John Cusick never seems to reply to his queries. Some preferences I've gleaned from his Oct 2017 #tenqueries podcast:

1) does not like stories where the main plot is the protagonist learning to accept himself
2) does not like distant third-person omniscient storytelling (which is odd, because his wishlist has books that are CLEARLY in that vein. Again shows how agents are contradictory in what they say...)
3) will not touch something that is currently saturated in the market place (listed Dystopian and portal fantasies as examples)

Sounds like if he doesn't respond it's a CNR. Am I right in thinking this? Thanks everyone!

katieob - I have submitted the same manuscript to different agents here, albeit after I either received a rejection, or waited the requisite time for a CNR.

Agency question-- their submission instructions say:
Please do not submit simultaneously to more than one agent at Folio.

Does this mean once you've received a rejection (or CNR in Mr. Cusick's case), you can query another agent there?

Thanks!

Really appreciate the quick turnaround! I'm not sure if it was a personalized form or not. Said he liked voice but wasn't as drawn in by the story as he hoped to be. He ended with saying "I have a feeling someone will scoop you up soon," Has anyone else gotten that?

Emailed and asked if he'd consider a revision in the future and he said definitely. Yay!
12/11/17 - emailed new revision
1/3/18 - Nudge to see if he'd received
1/4/18 - confirmed receipt saying he'll be in touch soon
1/24/18 - very kind, personalized ER

Really a dream agent so fingers crossed!

Very nice and personal rejection. Loved the concept but felt the epistolary nature of the novel distanced him from the action. A disappointing, but ultimately painless, rejection.
