I wanted to add to @SteinbeckFan and the sentiments I now feel about Carly as an agent. I understand that engagement is important right now, but there were several times when I felt my manuscript was forgotten about. I followed her on Twitter and Insta and began to wonder if she was agenting, or trying to get into more of a teaching/mentoring role, and there were several times I almost paid to hear her lectures... No accusations to her, of course, but as a youtuber, I recognize when you are asking for engagement from people. It sucks when that person is also expressing interest in YOUR work, because there is a mutual obligation thing... Just a heads up to everyone.

I’m so sorry @EddieLane! That is really heartbreaking. Don’t give up! You’ll find your match, hopefully soon.

To add my similar experience:
I queried Carly on Feb. 7 2021, after taking her seminar on Query Letters. She requested a FULL Feb. 19, 2021. At some point in the spring, she tweeted the importance of giving requesting agents trigger warnings. I went ahead and reached out to all of mine and told them. They ALL responded to my email, thanking me, and some suggested it's not necessary (some of the bigger agents, in particular). Carly, however, didn't respond/acknowledge my email at all.

I originally found Carly because she was the agent to Taylor Jenkins Reid. I don't think she represents her anymore. Over the months, as I waited for her response to my full, I started to think she wasn't the right agent for me, either ...

The following is to give all you beautiful artists, struggling to gain ground on the business end (ie: a land an agent), a silver lining. Your outlook is all yours, and you're still the one with the art in your hands. ;-)

I'm actually GRATEFUL she rejected my FULL today, on a Friday afternoon. Now I can enjoy my weekend. I mean, I would've felt really awkward fielding an offer from her. It's been 139 days of me on pins and needles. Now I can breathe easy. She didn't even waste my time giving me feedback to parse. The agency's admin coordinator sent me a form rejection, alerting me that "Due to the volume of submissions received by the agency, [they] are unable to provide individual feedback." I'm grateful for that too because that kind of response on a full tells me a lot about an agent. In comparison, I mean, to the other agent experiences I've had with this project. A careless and cold rejection on requested work, for me, speaks to how they may deal with an artist, in general. But thank goodness enough agents, top ones at that, DO give useful feedback in a timely manner. I got some excellent suggestions, and even a little praise, from really dreamy agents at top agencies. I'll definitely be re-submitting to them. :-)

Today, from her Twitter account: "Query Update: I'm caught up to March 31 for queries. Requests will be going out in the next few days though our submission manager."
Update 4/25: Since I didn't get a request, marking this a CNR, 4/27, I got a full request! :)

I and at least ten others have a full out with them currently (over the past 90 days) with no rejects, a few additional requests. I'm going to guess she's really backed up and that's why she's advertising for an assistant, on Twitter. Odd though about the bounce backs since it appears their queries go through a central email. The waiting game in all its glory!
