Ms. Grosjean is what is known as a "schmagent." She doesn't use contracts, and she doesn't revise or advise. She "represented" my last novel for a year, just sat on it, and I finally decided to seek other representation. She sent me a verbally abusive email when I let her go. I wouldn't normally trash someone like this, but she is not a real agent. She will talk to you for two hours about her dogs and her doctor husband and her sightings of Billy Joel near her house in Long Island. She seems to enjoy being an agent, but not in doing any work. She even had ME print her the MS and FedEx it to her. Twice--she "never received" the first one. Should've known right then she was wasting my time. A very unpleasant narcissist. Avoid.

"As interesting as your novel sounds I don’t believe I would be the best agent to represent your work. Best of luck to you though and thank you for thinking of me."

FloridaGal007, Jill just sold a book in a similar vein to mine so I was researching her and see she wants MSs printed out and sent. While I know there are a few old schoolers who do this, I think I'll pass as well. Makes me wonder how much she's kept up with the times. She also has no website.

*update 7/16 - I opted not to send her my MS, despite her requesting it. I don't want to pay for printing & shipping, nor am I particularly keen on working with an agent who would request an exclusive read of a paper copy anyway. A tough call for me, but I'm going with my gut and not pursuing this one.

2/21 EQ
3/9 FR - "Your novel sounds intriguing. I work alone, therefore I read on an exclusive basis (two weeks) so if no other agent is currently reading your manuscript, please forward it along, with a SASE should you wish it returned, to my POB..."

Obviously thrilled with the request, however, another agent does have my full so I can't send anything to Jill right now. Also, sort of annoyed that I need to print my MS (this isn't cheap) and mail it. I feel like that's a dead industry trend...?
