I pressed my luck with this agency a bit, in that I sent a query for a memoir despite their saying on their website that they don't handle that genre (although they do want narrative nonfiction). I tried to make the case that my book transcends memoir, per se, in that it addresses a widespread and very serious problem. Nice try, maybe, but it netted the following response in one day:
"Thank you for your query. Unfortunately, memoir is memoir as far as publishers are concerned and I am not the right agent to represent your book. I don't have the knowledge of the subject or the editors who acquire it. You need to work with someone who does.
I do wish you the best in placing your work with an appropriate agent and publisher."
