Query letter with picture book manuscript sent via snail mail on 1/7/2017
Rejection letter received in snail mail SASE on 2/4/2017
Rejection letter was dated 1/30/2017 and stated the following:

On behalf of Doug Stewart, I'd like to thank you very much for sending us your query letter and pages from xxx. We appreciate that you have given us the chance to read your work, and thank you for your patience as your work has made its way through the channels here at SLL.

Regrettably, Doug is going to pass on representing your book. While there was certainly a lot to admire in your submission, Doug is not seeking to represent any more children's picture books at this time. We hope that you find someone to champion your work out in the publishing world.

Thank you so much for thinking of Doug and of Sterling Lord Literistic. We wish you only the best of luck in finding your work a supportive home.

Best wishes,
Cara Reilly

Got a form rejection via snail mail from his assistant, Cara. I've never been so excited for a rejection like I have from this one because it was paper mail. LOL I'm keeping this forever.

FYI, in it stated that he was not seeking to represent any middle grade fiction or fantasy novels.

Sent snail mail query on 6/24. YA Fantasy novel.
7/9 I nudged with offer of representation from another agent
7/12 His assistant emailed me, requesting the full
7/9 Passed:

Thank you for checking in and for your patience as Doug and I have taken some more time to look at XXXXXXX. We’ve been very impressed by your writing and by the originality of your story. However, the novel as a whole didn’t resonate with us in a way that would allow us to champion your work properly, so Doug will be passing on offering representation.

Thank you again for giving us time to read your work, and good luck moving forward! We’re very happy to know that XXXXXXX will be represented.

From rejection letter: "While you are clearly a gifted writer, he found that the complexity of your writing style...just did not click for him. Reactions to fiction can be so subjective and so this is probably just a case of the wrong agent for some very good material."

On 3/23/13, I queried Douglas via snail mail with Chain Reaction. Today I've heard back from his assistant--they passed, though she'd gotten the title wrong. She referred to the first part--she did the same for Venom last year too. I'll try Celeste Fine in May.
