Follow-up on my post dated 10/15/18. I emailed Gina and her assistants (in October) and haven't receive a reply from any of them. It feels like I've been ghosted.

Gina and her assistants have been pleasant and kind when I've been able to contact them - but that's the catch. It's been difficult to get a reply. Even after having my manuscript make it through positive reads from the interns and Gina, no "yes" or "no." Just nothing.

EQ: 11/12/18 - Mystery/SF
ER: 12/06/18 - "The story sounds interesting, but it's a bit too similar to something we are working on with one of our current clients, so we're not the best agency to represent the project."

So much for the idea of querying agents who represent novels similar to the one you wrote ...

EQ 10/20/18 - SF Space Opera, 103k Words
ER 11/24/18 - Pleasant, helpful, personalized email rejection. They liked the query and found the plot strong, but they found some issues with the writing that kept it from clicking with them. Bummer, but I'll be happy to use the feedback to improve!

I sometimes wish there was a third option besides "Form Rejection" and "Helpful Feedback."

I, like others, received what was definitely a personalised rejection, but the feedback from Gina's assistant was confusing, contradictory, and unclear. And as we're not really "allowed" to contact an agent/assistant after a rejection, I'm left without clarity on her suggestions. I showed my CPs and they were equally confused.

Given some previous comments below, I think I have to chalk this up to not the right agent for me. It's nice that her assistant feeds back, as others have noted, but it almost feels like a few stock phrases -- and sometimes those stock phrases are in direct contradiction to each other. Moving on.

10/06 queried Gina. 145k sci-fi
11/07 kind rejection.
Gina, or Tia her assistant, was more than I had expected for a rejection. Her e-mail was well received and she told me, "We think the story sounds interesting, but it's not quite right for our list at this time."
I know it's a rejection non the less, but her tact in wording was genuine and sincere. It helped me to believe she had read what I sent... even if it was before the latest revisions I've made. She's a good agent in my opinion, for whatever that helps others in their decision making.
