Got a nice form rejection, but I totally deserved to be rejected. I had a headache yet still insisted on changing my query letter and sending it to her, even though I should have waited until I could think straight. It was awful and I knew it the minute I hit "submit". Why isn't there an "I'm an idiot" button that lets you erase your submission? ;)

I queried this agent knowing that my manuscript wasn't exactly what she's looking for, but I still wanted to reach out to her because I really admire her agenting style. I got a rejection about 12 hours later, but the form letter was very encouraging. I really appreciated the fast response and encouragement!

Jessica's rejection email/letter was very polite and encouraging. In fact, although she did not feel that my query suited her, she encouraged me to further review the agency's submissions page to see if another agent in her agency might be better suited. This may be a form letter - and this suggestion may be given to many. Never-the-less, I found it encouraging.

Just an FYI- the form suggesting trying other agents is sincere (though a form, obviously). I received it and queried another agent at bookends, who requested the full. (Still waiting for a response on that).

"I really think you have an interesting and marketable idea here and was excited to read what you sent. I'm afraid however that I just didn't feel sufficiently enthusiastic about the story to offer at this time."

On to the next!

Form Query: 7/25
Full Request: 7/26
Rejected: 7/27

Adult thriller/suspense 85k

After three agents asked for a slower opening to introduce the diverse case, I came up with a new first chapter with a slower pace. Jessica Faust rejected the story because the opening chapter was too slow for her liking and she wanted to be dropped into the story. I wish I could tell her I agree and she could start with chapter two if she wanted :)
