Within 3 weeks of receiving my query, she invited me to submit the full manuscript. Regardless of whether she chooses to represent me after reading it, I appreciate her prompt and gracious response.

Received a reply today:

While I am actively looking to build my nonfiction list, my focus is more on prescriptive nonfiction and not memoir. For that reason, I don't feel I'd be the right agent for your work.

There are definitely others at BookEnds who might be a better fit for your book and I encourage you to review our submissions page and query one of them.

Thank you so much for querying BookEnds and for giving me the opportunity to review ***. You've written a solid query letter, but I'm afraid the idea itself just didn't grab my interest.

I'm sorry I don't have better news. I am currently working with a full roster of clients and that has allowed me to be very particular about what I'm taking on. Publishing is truly so subjective and it's quite possible you'll find someone else who feels differently. Maybe even here at BookEnds. I encourage you to review our submissions page to see if another BookEnds agent might be better suited to your work.

I wish you all the best in your search for representation and thank you again for giving BookEnds the opportunity.

Best,

Jessica Faust, President

Got a quick response, but didn't expect it to be personal. Said I had a solid query letter. Hope it wasn't a form response, but I don't think she would do that. I've watched videos and she seems a sincere person. Just sayin'

Same rejection as the others. Very polite and complimentary of my "solid query letter," with the invitation to reach out to another BookEnds agent.

Fiction submission, 175k words
It was a rejection, but it was kindly worded and told me that I have a solid query letter. Honestly, that was incredibly helpful. She also got back to me right away, which is a good thing. I appreciated the honesty and the promptness.
