@lmr1999: Yes, but they have exceptions: "Generally, if an agent at Folio declines a manuscript, we felt it wasn’t a fit for any of the agents at the agency. That said, if an author feels strongly that another Folio agent should have the chance to review the author’s submission, please let the second agent know that the author has already submitted the project to other agents within Folio." Does anyone know if Folio, Jr. is a "no from one means no from all" agency?

Same here. It says nowhere that she's closed to queries.

While I can empathize with the frustration of not receiving a response from an agent, I just wanted to mention that I had a good experience with Rachel through Manuscript Academy. I had a written critique rather than a conversation, but she offered some very helpful advice on my pages and asked me to query her or another agent at Folio when I was ready. I'm still in the process of querying right now, but I didn't feel Rachel promised anything more than a careful look at my query and some initial interest in what I'd written.

It seems like @Rusty_Allen got what they paid for, which was a phone consultation through Manuscript Academy, which does not guarantee any sort of request, read, or offer, and unfortunately their book didn't pique Rachel Ekstrom's interest at that time, or she put her client's needs first and wasn't able to get to this request, or any number of real life things could have happened that prevented her from making this submission a priority. It sucks, but despite how bad the query trenches are, I could never imagine contacting an agent's boss. 2020's been hard enough, even if this whole experience started beforehand. Clearly it wasn't a good fit and even though she personally requested the submission, that doesn't guarantee the process move forward...

I wish I saw the comment below before I queried her. :(

Forget this agent. Don’t bother. She’s unprofessional. I paid for a phone consultation with Rachel through the Manuscript Academy, and during our conversation she requested a partial submission from me on the novel we discussed. I submitted and heard nothing. I ended up spending six months trying to just get a confirmation and then the courtesy of a response from her, given that she personally requested this submission. Nothing.

In the same conversation, she requested a query from me on a second novel of mine that I've completed. Again, six months and many nudges later on that query, nothing.

I sent her an updated version of the first manuscript and she promised to look at it. Another six months with nudges and nothing. Left her a voice mail and she emailed saying she would dig it out and get back to me. Months went by, nudges, nothing.

I finally reached out her boss, Jeff Klineman, who is the senior agent at Folio Literary. He contacted her and then let me know that I’d hear from her soon. But after more months of still hearing nothing, I gave up.

Don’t waste your time with Rachel Ekstrom.

Note that you will receive an automatic acknowledgement from your query. In this she states she will not open up any links or attachments. She had mentioned no attachments elsewhere, but I hadn't seen anything about links, so she may not bother looking at my author's website which is in the body of my email...
