A good place to start is Writers Beware, a watch group that helps inform and protect authors from shady practices.
Mrs. Marsal—oh, Mrs. Marsal, with your eloquent, courteous, soul-pulverizing "No"—how could you? HOW DARE YOU?! I entrusted you with my hopes, my dreams, my literary child, and you—oh, you—politely handed it back as if it were nothing more than a misplaced umbrella at a dinner party!
The pain is visceral. It’s not just a stab; it’s a symphonic, operatic torment that reverberates through my very being. Her words may as well have been etched in flames, branding themselves onto my heart. "Not the right fit." NOT THE RIGHT FIT?! Am I not worthy? Is my sweat-drenched, ink-stained manuscript not carved from the very essence of my soul?
I am raw. I am exposed. I am a newborn gazelle kicked by the universe’s cruel, indifferent hooves. WHYYYYY?! Why did no one warn me that rejection would be less of a "no thanks" and more of a personalized apocalypse? I entered this journey with dreams, and now I stagger onward, cradling the shattered remains of my once-blooming naivety.
And yet… and yet, there’s a strange beauty in this anguish. I shall wear it like a battle scar, a twisted badge of honor. For now, I wail at the heavens, shaking my fist, lamenting the cruelty of Mrs. Marsal’s impeccably written email. But one day—oh, one day—I will rise. I will thrive. And perhaps, Mrs. Marsal, you will look upon my future success and wonder if perhaps you missed out. Until then, I remain here, clutching my wounded pride, drowning in my overly dramatic despair. (MY FIRST REJECTION)
