Always verify agent's information before sending your query. Verify the agent's query preferences, contact information, genres of interest, and if the agent is still open to queries.

Although QueryTracker tries to stay current, it is not always easy. Never trust any single source for agent information (and yes, this includes QueryTracker).

Review the user comments for more information, and always follow exactly what it says on the agent's website.

And NEVER give money to an "agent".

Leave comments about your experiences with this literary agent, or read what other authors have to say.

Revised manuscript sent: 7/14/16
8/25/16 - MS was chosen for Pitch Wars. Emailed that I will be revising. She's agreed to wait and is "excited" to see revised version. (At this point I'm dealing more with Amanda Jain than Michelle, but since I queried Michelle originally I'm leaving the comments here.)

Looking forward to her response to the ms. This kind of request is so rare!
To follow up on kbevis1's post, she said "This door will remain open." on a Facebook comment.

Backtracking to give stat updates for my querying peeps:
7/9/16: EQ
7/11/16: Full Request
7/17/16: email sent to notify of an offer from my dream agent

Okay, Michelle is awesome. I met her briefly at the DFW Writer's Conference in 2015 (the same day I met my dream agent actually) and she asked me to query her directly once my project was complete. She ultimately didn't have time to read before I'd made my decision, but she's wonderful to correspond with, both through email and in person, and she is very, very cool. I highly recommend her.

Adult Fantasy 139K - I was surprised to receive a personalized response that, while still a rejection, offered some encouragement and affirmation as well. Just a note for others that one of the issues for her was the word count, which she said is higher than she normally takes on.

She sent a very nice personalized response, plus a: "If you do a substantial edit on the manuscript or produce a new novel in the future, please query me again!"

She seems very nice! I am, of course, sad that she rejected the query... but the fact that she sends personalized responses, even to normal query letters, is pretty helpful and oh-so refreshing.

FR 5/2
Email about a substantial rewrite 5/28
(She responded same day, agreed to wait until I was done rewriting)

Received a mostly form rejection at one a.m. last night. She did not wait to read my rewrite (Forgot? Didn't care? I'm not sure) and I'm disappointed by this outcome. My rewrite is a substantial project, and she shouldn't have agreed to wait for the new manuscript if she wasn't planning on reading. Luckily, I have other agents waiting on this rewrite.

Update: She admitted she forgot about our email conversation regarding holding off on reading. Even though the MS was included in that email chain, she told me she doesn't look at the email before reading... She apologized and offered to read the rewrite.

She's very good about including at least a line of feedback, which can feel like life preserver in the face of query silence. Thanks, Michelle!

From her fb/twitter page today:
I'm standing in Target in the book section. On one side of me is the adult section, which clearly represents diversity in fiction and nonfiction (though it's segregated and that still bothers me), then I look on the other side of the aisle.
The young adult section. Where it's all white authors with white heroes and heroines. White princesses in gowns, white child-magicians taking on the world.

Where is the representation for our youth?

This is a huge problem. One of he fundamental problems that perpetuates systemic racism.

Help me fix this. Send me your MG and YA books with diverse heroes. ‪#‎ownvoices‬ only. Send me the full MS with your query and #ownvoices in the subject line. If I can't represent it, I will evaluate it and at least give you one more step up.

14 days from submission of query to rejection. Her reply was polite and encouraging. Unsure if it was a form rejection, but well-thought through.
