@cosmic congrats! I'm glad it worked! It's good to test the waters, and if the fish are biting, might as well go all in!

AuthorGGRyn...I think the recommended method is going in batches. But I've had an agent before, and I knew what and who I wanted. And my first batch, actually, of 15 agents in the first two days resulted in 8 full requests starting within 10 minutes of going out. So, I went all in. I went out with next batches: end of week, second week...mainly because I'm impatient but had a really strong, good feeling.
I guess...take that as you will. lol. Impatience.

76K A SFF

Got the same form letter the entire agency sends out:

"Thank you so much for sending me your work. I’m afraid, however, that I am going to have to pass up the opportunity to represent it. I am currently taking on new clients quite selectively, focusing exclusively on work that really stirs my passions. I honestly don’t feel that I could represent your work with the requisite enthusiasm in this tough market, but hopefully another agent will feel differently. I do wish you the best of luck with it."

Glad she selected my pitch but I doubt she really understood the genre. I've noticed she doesn't trek with many SFF stories.

9/11 EQ
9/12 PR/First-50 pages (woot)
9/13 Confirmed receipt of partial (if only all agents did that! She seems very nice)
10/10 ER that wasn't same form as others have posted below (like it was actually from Katelyn, NOT from Jill, lol)

A personalized rejection that was sweet and encouraging, but form-y by nature though. Loved what she read, but wasn't connecting with the voice enough so she had no larger vision for it so therefore can't represent it. And same ol' "hope another agent feels differently" and "i'd be happy to consider another work." All form-y but nicely worded, she really is nice. Nothing she said gave me anything to work with, though, like she didn't say anything specific, all very general and just...form-y stuff.

For how long she had the partial (about a month), I was hoping she'd mention specifics that told me she read it fully, honestly not sure if she did, but with how she said it was a pleasurable read, I'll assume she did, but who knows. Unless agents actually mention characters, plot-points, etc. I always feel like "I wasn't connecting with the voice" is another way of them saying that it's just not for them, but put more nicely than "just not for me." And I get that they have to LOVE it to want to represent it, so I guess the love wasn't there either. Glad she's interested in seeing more work from me, though, and overall, it was a pretty pleasant experience with Katelyn. I'd definitely love to query her again in the future.

10/17 Just as an FYI: EVERY email exchange between Katelyn and me has been personal, friendly, and professional, no form letters, like there's been an actual real person responding to me. I know that in and of itself can be very rare with most agents only responding in form letters, or not at all. She also said that she wants to see more from me, which is also nice to hear, goes to show that just because it's been rejection/no offer of rep, doesn't mean that a connection, rapport, and much interest in seeing more is impossible. Katelyn is a total sweetie, so glad we connected: QUERY her, she's great.
