Quick response with a request for proposal. Seems most information out there states memoir queries like fiction, but now I have a solid proposal (thanks Nathan Bransford - you rock even if you cnet now!

Sydelle responded quickly to my query; asked for a proposal and a couple of chapters. Rejected. But her response was helpful and confirms what I tried to do, write a memoir about an ordinary black woman with a two-year gambling addiction that will appeal to other ordinary people who have gambling addictions. By that I mean that I'm writing about the experiences of someone who doesn't have lots of money. For Sydelle, that's the problem; it's too ordinary for major publishing houses which are looking for high drama. I appreciated the time she took to read and write back.

On summer vacation in August.
The office is closed until just after Labor
Day, but I will still be reading e-mail. If you are an editor or a
client, please be assured that I'll get back to you quickly. If you
are a new author interested in submitting material, I will respond to
your query in early September.

Have a good summer.
