As an environmentalist, the snail mail goes to the bottom of the list.

This agent is probably perfect for me. I'm writing a Robert Caro-scale, massive nonfiction history book. Possibly multiple volumes. And he seems to love serious nonfiction.

But to not accept email queries in 2015, forget it. I'm going to self-publish before I stoop to buying stamps and envelopes and snail mailing letters to agents. I'm imagining this guy wearing dark suit, Bogart-style fedora, swigging a Scotch on the rocks at 11am, driving a Packard, and having a gum-chewing secretary with a big rotary phone on her desk. Frankly I'm surprised his address has a ZIP code, given how modern that would make him.

He originally pursued me and was VERY interested in my manuscript and then nuttin', even after I followed up with an email. I understand agents are busy, but so are writers. Really hate the rude behavior agents exhibit. I understand why writers turn to self publishing.

That "Dear Sir or Madam" form letter response is a real turn-off - even after reading about it here, receiving it myself sent such a clear message that I didn't want this agency after all! The vibe is so unfriendly.

Took about five weeks to get a form reply. No complaints about the timing, but the letter was as others have quoted, "Dear Sir or Madam."
