Hey guys. Just started querying and have found that reading your comments have really given me strength to go on. Been rejected already but of course we don't give up! I wish all of you well!

I feel your pain reb. I nudged her and got her prompt response. The summer time is usually a slow response time period. Things will pick up after Labor Day Weekend. It's been a month for you. You have to wait a bit longer. It's still too soon for you.

Angelscribe, it's so frustrating when they're so slow. I queried her 7/30.

5/20/13, I queried Jen with Chain Reaction. Today she passed on my query with regrets. Oh well.

Alniah where did you read that quote from Ms. Skutelsky? Thanks!

Joseph: The number one reason for an agent who usually responds not to, is if they're queried with something that they don't represent. For example, just because an agent accepts YA, doesn't mean they accept YA Sci-fi. As authors, we really have to do our homework and research each individual agent. Not saying you haven't, just remembering that I didn't realize that when I first started my querying journey. It's quite the learning curve. =)

Still haven't heard back from her. Hmmm. It's weird. Sometimes it feels like someone's sent a mass email to every single literary agent telling them about me and my work. I've sent a query to a good fifteen agents over the past four months, and most of them haven't even responded even though most of them claim to respond to all works. drives me crazy.

From the agent herself:

"Like many agents, I have fairly specific areas of interest but am willing to venture beyond. I'm drawn to the dark and the Gothic; smart, edgy world building that pushes boundaries and explores new territory; flawed, strong characters who must discover things about themselves; and a high concept premise that stirs the imagination. I'm interested in the marginal and the heroic, and whatever the genre, I'm open to good storytelling. Surprising, deft use of language gets me every time."
