Submitted adult litfic 2 weeks ago and I just got a sort of heads-up-in-case-you-never-hear-from-me-again:

Dear Author,

As the pandemic wears on and I’m without staff for the duration, I’ve had to temporarily switch our query response policy to the dreaded No response regretfully means no. While it is posted on my website and on Publishers Marketplace, I realize not everyone is aware of this temporary policy change, which will now run through 2021. This is a one-time reply in the event that you did not see the policy change notice or submitted prior to our decision.

Regarding rejection, please keep in mind that for any agent the number of submissions far exceeds the number of projects any individual can take on. Rejections usually aren’t anything more than not this project for this agent at this time. Persevere and never stop trying to improve.

Wishing you the best of luck, success, and good health.

Best regards,

I think another form one.

Thank you for your query; we greatly appreciate your interest in our agency. I'm afraid though, that this really isn't what we're looking for right now, especially given a rather tight list for the moment. Sorry.

We wish you much success in finding representation and a home for your work.

I don't remember when I queried her TBH, totally forgot and have no recollection lol, but her form rejection goes like this:

Dear ____,

While we greatly appreciate your interest in our agency and thank you for your query (and patience!), I’m afraid we’re going to pass on requesting your work. Sorry. With room for one or two new clients on my list right now, I have to limit submission requests to those that feel most likely a match in genre, content, style, and tone.

Although I’m passing on your project, I hope the next agent will respond enthusiastically, if that hasn’t indeed already happened.

Wishing you the best of luck, success, and all good things with your project this spring.
